The cancer of corruption:—(sach ka aaina )
—————————————
Corruption has spread its roots all over the country of India. And every other day one or other incident of corruption takes its toll on the common man. Another significant fact is that how corruption has taken the whole society into its grip. Let’s talk about it in detail now…..

If we talk about corruption there are mainly two questions which need to be answered. Firstly  what is the starting point of corruption and what are its reasons.

The second and most important question is how do we fight corruption. The lowering of general moral standards of society is the starting point of corruption and a moral-less society will be a corrupt society. A man’s behaviour is always shaped by his morality. One is able to discipline himself on the basis of good morals. An individual’s morals have a huge impact on his behaviour.  In modern times, the failure of parents to inculcate good morals in their child has a lasting effect over the entire life of the child. For e.g. If a child goes to market with five rupees with him and comes back with one rupee but the parents do not pay attention towards the one rupee which the child has not accounted for. Slowly it becomes a habit of the child  to hide money from his parents and this is the moment which becomes the first step towards corruption.  But the child at this moment does not posess the knowledge to differentiate  between  right and wrong  and thus his behaviour is corrupted. The same child when becomes an adult ,is still forced by his greed to indulge into corruption.

Thus it is quiet clear that the origin of corruption is the family of the child , where due to lack of knowledge of good morals  he is unable to decide between morality and immorality. And this lack of knowledge also prevents him from being honest.

Many a times an individual is faced by such situations where he has to sacrifice his moral values and indulge in corruption. This type of corruption is mostly seen in government departments. Even if a person wants he cannot take the path of morality due to limited powers and a very cumbersome process. Thus he is unable to raise his voice against the corruption.

In this fast moving world where social values are changing continuously people have desires which they cannot fulfill through their current economic situation. The desires of a man are also increased due to the urge for an extravagant lifestyle. To achieve all this following the path of morality is almost an impossible task. Thus to fulfil all these desires  people tend to adopt corrupt measures and also encourage others in the society to indulge in corrupt practices.

One of the main reasons for corruption is the lack of an effective law to counter corruption and also the government machinery needed for it. The lacunae in our system prevents the corrupt from getting punished.

In the past few decades economic disparity has increased at an alarming rate in our country. The rich have become more richer while the poor are still struggling to make their  two ends meet. When even a man’s basic necessities are not fulfilled treading the path of honesty then he looses faith in morality and is forced to indulge into corrupt practises to survive.

Now the question is how do we curb corrupt practises? Our society has provided police force and laws to maintain law and order . There is a unique number for government services like police, fire ,etc where a person can dial the number 100 and he will get help immediately from the police. But if someone demands a bribe or someone indulges into corrupt practises , there is no straight forward system so that one can dial a number  and an  anti corruption squad will come an help the victim and take appropriate actions against the corrupt person. A stringent and stricter law will only ensure limited control on corruption. But it cannot be eliminated completely. It is not easy to live a life of truthfulness and honesty. To protect oneself from corruption one has to practise strict self discipline and have belief in his inner strength.

A person who belongs to the lower economic strata of the society and is always struggling for the basic necessities of  life , does not give much value to ideals like morality and honesty, and he forms a grudge towards the society as a whole.

Corruption has spread like a cancer in our country. The major reason behind this is the social economic disparity prevalent in our society. To eradicate corruption our government should try to minimise the gap between the rich and the poor.

If we look into our past , we can see that many great civilizations owe their downfall  to corruption. Corruption is an enemy of development and good governance. It leads to disproportionate allocation of resources resulting in lack of resources for the poor.  Corruption also endangers the security of the country as it encourages unsocial elements. The major effect of corruption is that the society in general loses its zeal to perform and thus hampering the growth of the society and the country as a whole.

Corruption is also an enemy of creativity and intelligence. The corrupt governments of the day believe in the formula ‘make everyone corrupt and rule’ which helps them in retaining their power.
